The MISSION of the Advisory Committee is to formalize links between the School of Architecture and the professional architectural community. The Committee's charge is to serve as a resource in providing information, input and advice regarding trends in the profession; serve as advocates for the School when our voices are needed; and assist in meeting the School's financial challenges.
Adopted 3/20/2005
The School of Architecture Advisory Committee serves as a setting where information about job prospects for graduates, alumni successes, potential visiting faculty, and trends in the profession and academia, can be consistently and openly shared. The Advisory Committee provides an important advocacy role for the School of Architecture and is an important link to fundraising activities. The committee also provides important information about contemporary practice and advice about initiatives that require a degree of collaboration with the professional community for their success. It is also an important partner in achieving diversity goals.
The School of Architecture’s Advisory Committee was formed in March of 2005. The committee comprises fifteen members including distinguished professionals and alumni statewide and nationally. Members of the School of Architecture’s Advisory Committee are appointed by the School Director based on nominations from the committee and in consultation with the faculty. Each member serves a three-year term, beginning with the summer meeting, and terms are staggered for continuity. Members can be re-appointed for one additional three-year term. The chair is elected by the committee for a one-year term (typically their second), and is responsible for developing the agendas and chairing the meetings. The committee meets three times a year -- the first during the summer (often paired with the AIA NC Summer Design Conference); and at midterms fall and spring semesters. All meetings are open to faculty, and minutes are recorded and reported to the Dean and the faculty.
