| On behalf of the faculty, students and staff I would like to welcome you to the School of Architecture’s web site. Since it was founded in 1948, the school has been known for its innovative approaches to the teaching and practice of architecture. Today it is a unique place of critical inquiry where teaching and scholarship are firmly embedded in contemporary issues – applied material and digital technologies; craft, tectonics and the art of making; sustainable architecture and urbanism; advocacy and social engagement; placemaking and the cultural significance of the built environment. Lastly, but perhaps most importantly, we are a school that places high value on excellence of teaching as evidenced by the successes of our graduates and the numerous teaching awards of our faculty.
The School of Architecture offers a 4-year Bachelor of Environmental Design in Architecture (non-professional) degree, a 5-year Bachelor of Architecture (professional) degree, a 2-year Master of Architecture (professional) degree, a 3 1/2-year Master of Architecture (professional) degree, and a 1 1/2-year Master of Architecture (post-professional) degree. It is one of five academic units in the multidisciplinary College of Design -- a unique setting for the study of architecture. The college offers undergraduate and graduate degree programs in Landscape Architecture, Graphic Design, Industrial Design and Art and Design, and a Ph.D. in Design. The college’s comprehensive shop facilities and cutting-edge digital technology labs facilitate in-depth investigations of applied theories, materials and assemblies of architecture. Urban design and design-build studios, an international program in Prague, and exchange programs in England, Scotland, Holland, Belgium, Germany, Spain and Turkey offer additional educational opportunities.
